Artemis
Showcasing Meta’s latest Artemis Chip innovations through a sleek, futuristic visual approach paired with clear, informative insights into the technology’s impact and the possibilities ahead.

About the Project
A visually rich internal film that explores Meta’s upcoming chip advancements through a retrofuturistic lens. The 5+ minute piece weaves together dynamic hardware visuals, team perspectives, and accessible explanations of complex engineering work, offering an inside look at how these innovations are shaping Meta’s next generation of technology.

Synopsis
Meta’s second-generation custom AI chip, codenamed Artemis, is a key step in reducing reliance on external suppliers like Nvidia while giving the company more control over cost, efficiency, and energy use across its massive AI infrastructure. Built specifically for running AI models (inference), Artemis delivers up to three times the performance of its predecessor, powering the ranking and recommendation systems behind Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
Manufactured on TSMC’s 5nm process, Artemis is part of Meta’s broader full-stack approach, pairing custom hardware with tailored software for greater efficiency than general-purpose GPUs. Already deployed in Meta data centers and operating alongside H100s, the chip represents a long-term commitment to building a scalable, high-performance foundation for future AI, generative tools, and metaverse technologies.

Outline
The visuals center around a retrofuturistic, high-tech aesthetic that blends clean hardware shots with stylized, cinematic lighting. Close-up product cinematography highlights the chip’s textures, circuitry, and physical precision, while slow-motion rotations and controlled camera moves give the hardware a sense of weight and sophistication.
Futuristic UI overlays, glowing accents, and subtle motion graphics reinforce the innovation narrative without overwhelming the footage. Lab environments and engineering spaces provide contextual grounding, intercut with interview moments that feel polished, intentional, and embedded within the same visual world.
Overall, the imagery balances technical authenticity with elevated design, creating a sleek, forward-looking lens on Meta’s chip advancements.
Footage Style
Interviews are staged within engineering these environments at Meta, using soft, directional lighting and shallow depth of field to keep the focus on the speakers while still showcasing the technical backdrop.
B-roll consists of Meta’s lab, engineering and server environments with the engineers, creating a cohesive blend of product-focused imagery and real-world context.

Filming Direction
The project required showcasing the hardware chip and related components in a visually compelling way, highlighting the innovation behind the technology. With limited time and resources, we got creative, engineering practical solutions using tools like a drill, string, and custom rigs to achieve smooth, polished spinning motions. These practical effects were then refined in post-production, where slow-motion treatments and detailed editing brought the final visuals to life.
